Good to know, I am using latest "Symantec Endpoint Protection" with Chrome (popups disabled) and I go through the sequence above without any issues (and with no other apps/exes downloaded beside the .rar file).

Hopefully your issue is resolved now

Happy new year :)

OK, that worked. I have full privileges. I had to turn off Norton to get the RAR, and the list of Trojans was about 3. Thanks for the help.

Larry

BTW, the last post, I have over 10Tb online, not 10Gb. Actually, probably close to 15 in shared space.

I went back to the last 'semi-official' 3.4.3.0. It made no difference; as soon as I plug in the wireless, I am instantly a guest. I can't change that to a full user on the router. In other words; it did not work.

Suggestions would be very-very welcome.

4shared is legitimate you just need to click on the download links and nothing else (the apps you get downloaded if you mistakenly click around are not malware but rather adware, and yes norton flags most adware as malware, which is actually a good thing).

You will need to create a free 4shared account, click the "download" button (not the priority download one), then the "free download" button (which will bring up a counter that lasts 20 seconds), then once the download link appears under the expired counter just click that and the download will autostart.

Nothing else gets downloaded the link is direct download to the .rar file.

BTW, I'm going to have to go BACK to an official version of the firmware; every one of the links to the XtrAIOS firmware is loading genuine malware (Norton gave me a list of what was coming in …) along with the program! It's just too risky in a home network with about 10Gb online to allow any threats. I can't afford to get anything in because it takes weeks to kill it. Aasoror, I love your firmware, but a downgrade is so much safer!

I will give it a try. I figured there was some button to press that I didn't know.

@ ldelie
Why not just reflash the firmware ?!

One of my two AIOS (the 'small' one with only a 4Tb WD drive) had to be re-located where there was no network drop. I got a new D-link DWA-130 and plugged it into one of the USB's. It worked fine, seeing my WD900 router and finding both the full pw protected and guest connections to the WD900. Unfortunately, I hit the guest account by accident. Now I can't get back to the full pw protected connection. I can't set up a new connection, or delete the guest account. I use the 4Tb one as a backup for my 6Tb AIOS, and for TV in that room. Now I can't see it remotely. HELP!

is there a way to change the workgroup name? I cannot see any of my pc shares as they are not in the workgroup "workgroup" but "1869"

I found the answer, enable the web server in the system service configuration menu, then go to a pc, open a browser, type

hxxp://YOUR AIOS IP ADDRESS/setup_Host_workgroup.php

make your changes to the workgroup and hostname save, and reboot.

Yup, the AIOS has SMB server that runs by default on any attached storage (just need to enable it once).

Found it. To watch on tablet movies or to listen to music that are located on AIOS, use ES File Explorer app. Works great.

Hum! Since then, still no answer… Do we have to conclude that we cannot watch on an android tablet a movie that is on aios? AASOROR???

Just a side note, its highly "not" recommended to remove the internal AIOS HDD and hock it up "internally" to a windows PC.
The AIOS is a linux based appliance, sometimes Windows retouches the MBR/GPT of the drive when internally connected to it, when this happens it renders the drive unreadable on the AIOS.
If sneaker net is a must I would recommend using the whole AIOS (with the HDD inside it it) as a USB 3.0 external enclosure, data access will be regulated by the AIOS itself and thus protecting the internal HDD from Windows directly accessing the drive.

This thread hasn't seen a new post for a year, so I don't know if anyone will read this
I too bought one of these units and was devastated when I tried copying to the HHD.
Here's what I'm doing now:

I have two methods.

Method #1 (50MB/sec)
I pull the HDD out of the AIOS and plug it into an external USB 3 Adapter. I now plug the adapter into a USB 3 port on my PC. Acceptable speeds are achieved when only copying 50GB of data.

Method # 2 (True SATA III 6GB/sec)
One of my PCs has a convenient little opening where I simply pulled a SATA III data and power cable thru. I keep them capped with rubber sleeves when not in use. I simply shut down my PC, take the 3TB HDD (NTFS format) out of my AIOS, plug it in to the cables and fire up the PC. I now copy files to the HDD with blazing speeds.

Yes, I have to connect and disconnect with my PC off, but when I can copy 800 GB to the HDD in less than an hour, the (2) boot trade-off is well worth it.

I hope I've help someone else with this info.

There is an advertised function for Pivos AIOS: 4TB internal HDD with hot-plug drive system (In addition to many others)

Does Pivos really expects customers to go through commandline without even listing this in the product description? It appears that (from 2011) stable firmware has not been produced just yet, How's this is even possible? Having a Masters degree in Computer Science I am just about to leave very specific negative review on Amazon. There are number of misleading claims and plain false advertisement with product description on Amazon and manufacturer website.

All owners and users of Pivos hardware welcome to leave comments here.

To Pivos management: You certainly can remove this post.
But US Chamber of Commerce and State Consumer Protection Agency's (not Better Business Bureau's) were relatively quick take action with similar cases.

Yes Hi all.. Still Winter here in Winnipeg.. LOL I had installed the latest Xtreamer Firmware and when I update Xtreamer it downloads but does not install. I installed the firmware on a formatted HD from root directory off a thumb drive and that worked great.. Also my Media Music Xtreamer Player Crashes.. Other than that I like my new Pivos.. I am no tech but know my way around troubleshooting.. Reason for purchase of an AIOS PIVOS was the fact it runs off a Linux based system..
Much Ablidged for any help or links..!!

Thanks for the complement, but I can't take any of the credit for XtrAIOS firmware, I only did some minor mods to allow it to run on the AIOS and solve some porting issue (not shutting down properly, peripherals not working, .. etc).

The original version of this firmware is the fine work of the Xtreamer developers and was meant for their Xtreamer SW2. The thing is, the SW2 is now discontinued and Xtreamer is no longer supporting it and thus 3.0.12 was the final version.

I am still working on the semiofficial firmware line, check the semiofficial firmware R21 on the official pivos forums.

R22 is currently cooking.

When you say "final"…are you not going to release anymore updates for the AIOS? I just got mine yesterday and very please with your work, I love the unit and now I can play full 1080P, DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD on my receiver.

I have one issue with MKV and subtitles ripped with MakeMKV, the official firmware will play all subtitles without issues but your firmware will not show anything, it will show the different languages in the subtitles menu but nothing will happen after selection.

Do you know if this is a known issue?

If you are not working on this player anymore, are you working on a new media player firmware?
